This film by one of the greats of English Cinema is about the origins of Mary Shelley's 'Frankenstein' and Polidori's 'The Vampyre'. Taking as its starting point a real event, the meeting of certain writers in June 1816 at Lake Geneva, Ken Russell tinges his tale with the same subjects which are treated of in the novels produced from that meeting. An intriguing and excessive film full of colourful references, "Gothic" features some of the best English actors in circulation: Gabriel Byrne, Julian Sands, Natasha Richardson and Tomothy Spall. Recommended.
