Play4film's point of view:
Previous to “Idaho Transfer” and “Wanda Nevada”, “The Hired Hand” is Peter Fonda’s debut as director, he is the symbol of a generation also for his role in “Easy Rider”. Considered a psychedelic western due to the previously unseen images used to describe certain situations typical of the genre. It is the story of a vagabond who chooses to return home to his wife and children only to realize, thanks to a friend’s demand for help, that he can no longer be who he used to be. This underestimated film is one of the best westerns of the 70’s even though it is deeply linked to the issues of 1968.
